About the training

Develop a working explanation of a client’s difficulty and connect it to clinical direction, intervention, and revision.

What you will work on

• Distinguish formulation from diagnosis, assessment, and treatment planning.
• Move from a client’s story to recurring patterns and possible maintaining processes.
• Compare competing explanations and identify observations that would discriminate among them.
• Identify a clinical target and use the client’s response to test and revise your formulation.

Audience and participation

Intermediate / advanced. Familiarity with basic psychotherapy practice is assumed. Course materials and a recording are included. No continuing education credits are offered. Community mental health and substance use practitioners may request $50 tuition; partial and full scholarships are available by request.
